Industrial Design shapes the appearance and functionality of new mass-market consumer products and branded environments. Students focusing on Industrial Design acquire diverse techniques and approaches in design research, prototyping, visual communication/presentation methods, and beyond. They develop comprehensive skills to excel as industrial designers, design researchers, and in growing interdisciplinary areas such as service design and experience design. Our instructors convey sophisticated concepts including object suitability, product character and brand identity, accessibility and inclusion, material culture, and how meaningful objects and spaces influence individual lives through their creation and use.

Qualification Requirements
International applicants must complete the equivalent of a U.S. four-year bachelor's degree, including all state and external/internal examinations required for the degree. Some three-year general degrees (from Canada, India, Pakistan, France, Lebanon, etc.) may not be equivalent to a four-year U.S. bachelor's degree. However, if you have completed an honors degree, additional undergraduate coursework beyond the three-year bachelor's degree, or a graduate degree, you may be considered for admission. As an international student, you are required to meet the university's English proficiency requirements for Undergraduate Admissions. Minimum scores of 79-80 TOEFL iBT and IELTS 6.5 are required for admission to Wayne State. If your native language is not English but you have been instructed in the English language, you are not necessarily exempt from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the Test of Written English (TWE) and the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) requirements.
