Public Relations is a dynamic and demanding profession requiring strong communication abilities and specialized training. Ethical considerations play a crucial role in practical applications. The curriculum emphasizes mastery of both written and verbal communication, along with core principles of human interaction and research techniques. Students in the Public Relations Program explore how PR functions across corporate, nonprofit, and agency settings. The program approaches PR as an essential management discipline involving monitoring public sentiment, cultivating strategic relationships, creating public engagement initiatives, and shaping organizational messaging. Through partnerships with PRSSA and PRSA Detroit, students gain valuable professional growth opportunities. Many courses incorporate community-based learning experiences. Our ultimate goal is to advance the PR field by producing exceptionally skilled and competent practitioners.

Qualification Requirements

International applicants must complete the equivalent of a U.S. four-year bachelor's degree, including all state and external/internal examinations required for the degree. Some three-year general degrees (from Canada, India, Pakistan, France, Lebanon, etc.) may not be equivalent to a four-year U.S. bachelor's degree. However, if you have completed an honors degree, additional undergraduate coursework beyond the three-year bachelor's degree, or a graduate degree, you may be considered for admission. As an international student, you are required to meet the university's English proficiency requirements for Undergraduate Admissions. Minimum scores of 79-80 TOEFL iBT and IELTS 6.5 are required for admission to Wayne State. If your native language is not English but you have been instructed in the English language, you are not necessarily exempt from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the Test of Written English (TWE) and the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) requirements.
