The Film major integrates the exploration of cinematic history and critique with hands-on experience in production and screenwriting, offering a comprehensive grasp of movies as both a visual storytelling medium and a filmmaking craft. This program equips students for professional paths as filmmakers, industry experts, and academics capable of producing, analyzing, and evaluating cinema as an artistic medium. Learners build expertise in film theory and media studies while receiving practical instruction in narrative techniques through screenwriting, cinematography, audio production, post-production, and directing. The curriculum fosters abilities in project planning, resource coordination, and logistical management as students participate in developing, executing, and presenting compelling visual stories.

Qualification Requirements

International applicants must complete the equivalent of a U.S. four-year bachelor's degree, including all state and external/internal examinations required for the degree. Some three-year general degrees (from Canada, India, Pakistan, France, Lebanon, etc.) may not be equivalent to a four-year U.S. bachelor's degree. However, if you have completed an honors degree, additional undergraduate coursework beyond the three-year bachelor's degree, or a graduate degree, you may be considered for admission. As an international student, you are required to meet the university's English proficiency requirements for Undergraduate Admissions. Minimum scores of 79-80 TOEFL iBT and IELTS 6.5 are required for admission to Wayne State. If your native language is not English but you have been instructed in the English language, you are not necessarily exempt from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the Test of Written English (TWE) and the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) requirements.
