The Department of History provides graduate programs for both full-time and part-time students pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. Applicants to the PhD program should possess a Master's degree in History or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution, demonstrating strong potential for advanced scholarly work. Doctoral students undertake original research culminating in a dissertation that significantly advances historical scholarship. Each student's investigation centers on a specialized Primary Field, situated within a wider General Field that establishes geographical, temporal, and historiographical context. The program concludes with a comprehensive oral defense. Qualified full-time PhD candidates may receive financial support through teaching assistantships.
