Faculty research spans three interconnected domains: Sustainable Energy Systems, Biomolecular Engineering, and Biomechanics. Key projects within these fields explore: catalytic processes in chemical and biological systems, fuel cell technologies, biofilm development, innovative sensor designs, molecular engineering for cardiac and reproductive systems, and studies of molecular, cellular, and musculoskeletal mechanics. The department features specialized analytical tools including operando XPS, XRD, and Raman spectroscopy with custom reactors, along with unique applications of circular dichroism spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and confocal imaging. Additional capabilities include advanced microelectrode fabrication and deployment, plus various custom reactor systems with state-of-the-art chemical analysis instrumentation.

Admission to the PhD program does not require that the student already hold a Master's degree. Students whose ultimate goal is to earn a PhD are advised to apply directly to this program.
We do not require you to have a masters degree before applying to our Ph.D. degree. As long as you have an accredited 4 year bachelor's degree you are eligible to apply our Ph.D. program.
