Women's studies is an interdisciplinary academic field that combines scholarly research with social activism, focusing on gender as a primary lens of analysis. The discipline examines and confronts societal disparities tied to gender systems, which intersect with factors like socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual identity, and age. Program highlights include faculty expertise in emerging research domains such as identity and embodiment theories, ecofeminism, queer studies, postcolonial feminism, and intersectional racial feminism. The department fosters strong partnerships with campus resources like the Women's Resource Center and the Gender Identity/Expression and Sexual Orientation Resource Center. Students in women's studies often demonstrate a strong commitment to creating social change. Our faculty prioritizes both students' personal aspirations and academic growth. The curriculum promotes cooperative learning and analytical reasoning within a worldwide activist framework, empowering students to take charge of their educational journey. Every major receives guidance from a faculty advisor who supports them in graduate school preparation, undergraduate research opportunities, scholarly publishing, and professional development within the discipline.
