Mastering Japanese language skills and intercultural understanding prepares you to thrive in today's diverse global workplace.
WSU's Japanese program provides two pathways: a standard Japanese major (34 credits) or a Japanese for the Professions major (37 credits, available only as a second major).
The General Japanese degree option equips students for advanced language studies, while the Professions track delivers practical, skill-focused training for professional Japanese communication.
The Japanese Professions major combines linguistic fluency with cultural competence, empowering graduates to navigate multilingual work environments successfully and enhancing their career prospects.
The General Major includes three years of Japanese language instruction plus English-taught courses on Japanese and Asian culture. Students may pursue a Japanese minor or an Asian Studies minor with a Modern Asia focus. The Japanese minor pairs well with various disciplines and expands opportunities for international education and employment.
