Both programs provide classes and practical creative experiences designed to push you to think and express yourself across disciplines in fresh ways. You'll cultivate your unique perspective through exploration and self-assessment while gaining the assurance and abilities to communicate powerfully in diverse contexts. The Bachelor of Arts in Art degree allows for adaptable interdisciplinary combinations within a comprehensive liberal arts framework. Two focus areas are offered:
Studio and Art History: equips you with the tools to thoughtfully and creatively interact with art and visual culture.
The studio track lets you choose a concentration area while also establishing a strong foundation in art history, critique, and modern theory.
The art history concentration provides wide-ranging exposure to visual arts, starting with introductory survey courses and fundamental studio practice, then progressing to specialized courses on particular cultures and historical eras. You'll develop an understanding of contextual factors surrounding art creation and appreciation, along with the analytical writing skills needed to examine art and visual culture critically.
Both tracks culminate in a thesis project, complement dual majors effectively, and can be combined with any WSU academic minor. All students must fulfill UCORE requirements as well.
