The French Studies Department at Wake Forest University focuses on creative, interactive instruction and outstanding academic research. Our professors specialize in diverse fields including French and Francophone literature, cultural studies, film, and linguistics. We offer both major and minor programs, a Business French concentration, and longstanding study abroad opportunities in Tours and Dijon.
Our faculty members are passionate educators committed to guiding students toward achievement. Every professor in our department, from seasoned veterans to newest hires, instructs across all course levels—from introductory French to advanced major/minor classes and specialized seminars. We value the progress of beginners as much as that of students in our highest-level courses, with student involvement and mentorship central to our departmental philosophy.
The Business French Concentration equips students with practical language skills for professional settings, emphasizing French corporate culture, translation techniques, and intercultural communication.

Certified transcripts are required from each secondary school, college or university attended. A record of at least four years of schooling is needed in order to evaluate the application. Detailed information concerning courses taken and grades received must be listed on these records. If necessary, transcripts should be translated into English with the originals sealed and attached.
All international students whose first language is not English are required to submit a TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo score. We accept self-reported test scores.
