The doctoral program in Planning, Governance & Globalization (PGG) adopts an interdisciplinary framework to explore these research domains through two distinct academic pathways: Urban & Environmental Design & Planning (PGG-UEDP), backed by Urban Affairs & Planning (UAP) faculty, and Governance & Globalization (PGG-GG), supported by Government & International Affairs (GIA) scholars. Prospective students should hold master's degrees in relevant disciplines including but not limited to Planning, Political Science, Sociology, International Relations, Geography, and Economics.
Contemporary world developments have increased the need for social scientists who possess comprehensive global outlooks on governance across public, private, and non-profit spheres. The transformative effects of globalization necessitate reimagined governance approaches at all levels - from local communities to international organizations. Similarly, persistent challenges in urban development, democratic processes, and unsustainable resource management continue to drive efforts toward more ecologically sound, economically viable, and socially just practices worldwide.
