The French major or minor explores the rich history, vibrant culture, dynamic business environment, literary traditions, and language of France and French-speaking regions worldwide. The curriculum covers diverse subjects such as film studies, surrealist art, francophone cultures, civilization studies, and commercial French. Alumni pursue diverse paths including education, translation services, business intelligence, archival work, and global policy, while others advance to prestigious graduate programs. Over 80% of our undergraduates gain international experience through summer, semester, or full-year programs at institutions across Paris, Senegal, and other French-speaking nations. A popular option involves teaching English to French students during an academic year. Extracurricular activities like Le Cercle French club and Phi Delta Pi honor society provide immersive French language practice beyond academics. The program features an innovative community engagement component where undergraduates teach French in elementary school after-school programs.
