The anthropology program advocates for a comprehensive and comparative method of examining humanity in its fullest context. We dedicate ourselves to scientifically exploring our shared human nature while fostering a deep respect for our diverse cultural and historical backgrounds. Anthropology branches into four specialized fields, each employing techniques and insights from both the arts and sciences. These include: Archaeology examines physical artifacts linked to human activity. Our methodology combines theoretical frameworks with practical fieldwork and analytical techniques. Linguistic anthropology investigates how language shapes thought and perception within social settings. The curriculum highlights cultural interpretation and sociolinguistics to understand language's role in human cognition. Biological anthropology explores human biological development. Instruction centers on human evolution, supplemented by specialized courses like anatomical studies, skeletal analysis, medical anthropology, evolutionary health sciences, and forensic applications. Cultural anthropology analyzes modern communities. Our primary strength lies in researching indigenous groups across Africa and the Americas through a worldwide comparative lens.

Essays are required of all applicants and must be submitted with the Common Application. At least one recommendation is preferred for all applicants. Applicants will be asked to submit recommender information before submitting the Common Application. Recommenders will be sent an email on the applicant’s behalf requesting a recommendation.
