The computer science program enables students to participate in dynamic, collaborative, and cross-disciplinary initiatives spanning artificial intelligence, computer animation, virtual environments, cyber-physical systems, distributed real-time systems, embedded middleware, human-systems integration, image processing, intelligent learning platforms, model-integrated computing, robotics, software engineering, and secure computing. Learners can investigate diverse computer science research domains, along with interdisciplinary opportunities aligned with the School of Engineering's focus areas in healthcare, medicine, security, energy, natural resources, and entertainment.
Vanderbilt University's Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) department provides both Ph.D. and M.S. degree programs in Computer Science. The CS graduate curriculum focuses on four core disciplines: (1) Computing foundations, (2) Computer and network architectures, (3) Information and intelligent systems, and (4) Medical image computing. The program fosters both theoretical and interdisciplinary research, supported by cutting-edge facilities including computational resources, networking infrastructure, and specialized laboratories across multiple research fields.
Qualified applicants with bachelor’s or comparable non-U.S. degrees are eligible for admission to the Graduate School. Applications from international students with three-year bachelor’s degrees will also be considered.
The minimum acceptable score on the paper-based TOEFL is 570, and for the Internet-based test, 88. Many programs, however, require a considerably higher level of proficiency.
For IELTS, the minimum acceptable score will vary by program. In many cases, a score of at least 7.0 is desirable.
