The Blair School of Music stands as Vanderbilt University's central hub for exploring music both as a human pursuit and a performance discipline. The institution attracts students from more than thirty-five U.S. states and international locations.
The bachelor of musical arts program offers accomplished performers and composers the opportunity to blend rigorous music training with a secondary academic concentration. Available for various instruments including orchestral strings, piano, saxophone, euphonium, voice, and composition, this degree provides comprehensive musical training alongside customizable interdisciplinary studies or non-music specializations (such as pre-medicine, art history, computer science, etc.). This program perfectly suits students passionate about two distinct fields or those wishing to create a personalized interdisciplinary focus. Musical Arts applicants follow the same admission process and standards as performance candidates.
Every Bachelor of Musical Arts student fulfills a foundational curriculum ensuring both depth and breadth in musical understanding. The program includes courses in music theory, aural skills and keyboard harmony, music history/ethnomusicology, and conducting, complemented by ensemble participation, chamber music, and private lessons. Additionally, all music majors complete a diverse liberal arts curriculum.
