The Institute for Brazilian Studies, part of Vanderbilt's Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies (CLACX), ranks among the nation's most established and robust interdisciplinary hubs for Latin American scholarship. Recognized as a National Resource Center on Latin America by the U.S. Department of Education in 2006, CLACX fosters academic exploration that bridges Latinx, Latin American, and Caribbean Studies through comparative and interdisciplinary approaches. Students can pursue interdisciplinary programs including majors and minors in Latinx Studies (LATS) or Latin American Studies (LAS), a Master of Arts degree, certificates in either Latin American or Latinx Studies, and a Minor in Brazilian Studies. The 41 program enables Latino and Latina Studies undergraduates to complete an M.A. with just one extra year of study, including thesis writing.
All candidates for admission must present transcripts of work completed in high school.
