The secondary education second bachelor's program is tailored for individuals who already hold an undergraduate degree in a secondary school teachable subject. This pathway enables them to fulfill licensure requirements for teaching in grades 6-12 through specialized coursework.
Eligible disciplines span chemistry, English, geography, history, health education, mathematics, physics, biology, theater arts, select world languages, and others. Given variations in academic preparation, students must consult an advisor to determine approved teaching fields and develop a customized study plan.
Program duration differs by individual circumstances. Those who've satisfied teaching major and minor requirements in their initial degree may finish in about three semesters by completing only pedagogical coursework and student teaching. Most candidates, however, require additional time to fulfill teaching major requirements or complete an entire teaching minor.
A second bachelor's degree is awarded upon finishing all major coursework. Additionally, students must demonstrate competency in one or more foreign languages to earn this second BA credential.
