The secondary education second bachelor's program is tailored for individuals who already hold an undergraduate degree in a secondary school teachable subject.
This pathway enables them to fulfill licensure requirements for teaching in grades 6-12 while building on their existing academic foundation.
Eligible disciplines span chemistry, English, geography, history, health education, mathematics, physics, biology, theater arts, select world languages, and others. Given varying academic backgrounds, students should consult an advisor to determine approved teaching fields and develop a customized study plan.
Program duration differs by student, though those with completed coursework for an approved teaching major/minor from their first degree typically finish in about three semesters by completing just the teacher preparation courses and student teaching. Most candidates require additional time to either strengthen their teaching major or fully complete a teaching minor.
A second bachelor's degree is awarded upon finishing all major requirements, which includes demonstrating competency in one or more foreign languages for the BA designation.
