The Family and Consumer Sciences Education (FCSE) program equips students to become educators in family and consumer sciences, preparing them for both school and community environments.
This program readies graduates for a highly sought-after career across the United States, qualifying them to teach diverse subjects like clothing and textile production, food and nutrition studies, home design, human growth and development, money management skills, and other related fields.
Those pursuing the school-based track gain qualifications to teach at secondary levels and can pursue advanced degrees for higher education positions. Community-focused students develop skills for non-traditional educational roles in extension services, FCS-related businesses, and charitable organizations. Alongside core teaching methodology courses, participants can expand their expertise by taking supplementary classes from partnering departments. The FCSE curriculum maintains strong collaborations with Nutrition and Food Sciences, Interior Design, Human Development and Family Studies, and Secondary Education departments to deliver a comprehensive educational experience.
