Graduates of this dual-degree program qualify for two teaching licenses: special education and early childhood education (grades K-3). Although preschool teaching doesn't require licensure, this program provides superior preparation for early childhood settings. The combined degree broadens professional opportunities, enabling graduates to educate both children with special needs (ages birth-5) and typical K-3 students. Since most public school classrooms include students with diverse learning needs, this training enhances educators' ability to address specialized requirements. Certain states mandate that special education instructors possess background knowledge in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education. Notably, Utah State University's special education program maintains a perfect employment rate for graduates.
