Modern studies in mesoscale and boundary-layer dynamics employ cutting-edge numerical and observational methods. Advanced high-resolution modeling helps reveal relationships between micro-scale cloud processes and larger mesoscale movements, especially within deep convective systems. Researchers are also investigating critical challenges in these fields through sophisticated monitoring, such as stratified airflow across mountainous regions, organized boundary-layer patterns (particularly during cold-air surges over water bodies), and the triggering mechanisms of deep convection (Geerts). These investigations depend significantly on the Wyoming Cloud Radar installed on the University of Wyoming's King Air aircraft.
