The Department of Atmospheric Science provides graduate programs for both Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees. These programs combine academic coursework with research components. Students enroll in required core classes along with electives selected from our graduate curriculum and other departments' offerings. Each student's academic plan can be customized to align with their individual goals and interests.
Degree candidates in Atmospheric Science must demonstrate competency in core subjects through satisfactory academic performance.
The University mandates that Master's Degree candidates complete 30 credit hours, consisting of 26 course credits and at least 4 thesis research credits.
M.S. students must finish the ATSC core curriculum (refer to M.S. Program of Study), totaling 20 credits - with 9/8 credits in the first/second semesters and 3 credits in the third semester. The remaining 6 credits should be allocated to electives that support the student's research focus, with course selection guided by their academic advisor.
