Political Science examines how societies establish governance systems and engage with each other. The Political Science curriculum covers several specialized areas: American politics, comparative government, international relations, political philosophy, public law, and public administration. Key study areas involve examining governmental frameworks and operations, civic participation in governance, policy formulation, philosophical foundations, foreign political systems, and international conflict resolution. This program enhances critical analysis abilities, equipping students for active political involvement, professional opportunities across public and private sectors, and advanced studies in law, political science, or public administration.
While bachelor's degrees deliver comprehensive political science knowledge, graduate programs enable specialized concentration. Master's candidates typically focus their coursework around specific themes like political science subfields (American Politics, Comparative Politics, Political Theory, Public Law or Methodology), geographic regions, policy specialties, or political evolution stages.
The School of Politics, Public Affairs, and International Studies provides three graduate degrees: MA in Political Science, MA in International Studies, and Master of Public Administration. The school aims to equip graduate students with theoretical knowledge and methodological skills for success in (1) academic research or further political science studies, (2) social science education at secondary levels, or (3) policy analysis and public administration roles across government agencies or international organizations. Graduates have achieved leadership roles in government, diplomatic services, and global institutions, built successful careers in education and business sectors, and pursued doctoral studies in political science and related disciplines.
