Faculty members in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department are conducting groundbreaking research in automatic control systems.
Dr. OBrien has dedicated recent years to tackling high-performance control challenges, focusing on innovative nonlinear compensation techniques. These methods enable robust feedback control despite unpredictable nonlinearities frequently arising from cost-effective actuator limitations. His patented multi-path nonlinear dynamic compensator has proven effective in UW's dual-axis parallel robots for precision tracking tasks. Current efforts aim to refine this technology for compliant robotic actuators in future industrial automation platforms.
