The Master of Science in Data Science program is governed by a faculty oversight committee (FOC) chaired by a program director. This committee comprises faculty members from participating schools and colleges. The 30-credit curriculum includes 18 core credits across six foundational areas, plus 12 credits focused on specialized data science applications. Recent years have witnessed an unprecedented surge in data generation. Daily activities—from music streaming and video watching to social media engagement and ride-hailing—all produce valuable data. Nearly every modern activity leaves digital traces that are captured and stored. Proper analysis of this information can significantly enhance both quality of life and organizational effectiveness. Consequently, data analytics has become commonplace even in traditionally data-light disciplines such as the Arts, Music, and Creative Writing. Its applications now span diverse sectors including Business, Engineering, Manufacturing, Government, and nonprofit areas like education, philanthropy, and social services.
