The Art History Department at UW-Milwaukee's College of Letters and Science provides a Master of Arts program that equips students with rigorous academic training for careers in the arts or doctoral studies. Recognized as a top-tier research institution by the Carnegie Classification, the department contributes significantly to the university's scholarly endeavors.
New students must enroll in a methodology course during their initial fall term. After completing nine credit hours, they need to pass a foreign language translation exam to demonstrate competency. The curriculum requires students to gain exposure to at least four distinct art history specializations, with courses spanning Western art from antiquity to modern times, along with Asian, Islamic, African, and Pre-Columbian artistic traditions.
