The Geographic Information Systems Certificate program prepares students for careers as GIS professionals, offering expertise in geographic data handling, spatial analysis, and GIS administration across diverse fields including criminal justice, healthcare, urban planning, engineering, transportation, and business. Graduates typically pursue roles as GIS Specialists, Analysts, or Coordinators.
This interdisciplinary certificate is offered collaboratively by the School of Architecture and Urban Planning (College of the Arts & Architecture) and the College of Letters and Science. The 12-credit core curriculum covers geographic data fundamentals, GIS management components, spatial analysis techniques, and visual data presentation. Students complete the 18-credit program by choosing electives (6 credits) in areas like remote sensing, cartography, or database systems, with internship opportunities available.
