Biology fundamentally explores the science of living organisms, encompassing humans, plants, and animals. The Biological Sciences program caters to students pursuing careers in healthcare, agriculture, environmental conservation, food production, manufacturing, biotechnology, and similar industries. Undergraduate options include a comprehensive general biology track or focused studies in cell/molecular biology or ecology. The department also offers a microbiology degree. Students gain practical research experience to enhance their professional or academic prospects, with master's and doctoral programs available for advanced study.
UWM's biology curriculum provides comprehensive training across biological disciplines, equipping students for professional or postgraduate success. The major requires core coursework with hands-on lab/field work in cell biology, genetics, and ecology. Students conduct independent research and complete internships with partner organizations. Following foundational courses, advanced electives cover specialized topics like Molecular Genetics, Neurobiology, Ecology and Evolution, Microbiology, and Aquatic Biology.
