Students pursuing Applied Mathematics and Computer Science learn to deconstruct challenges into core components, create computational models for evaluation, and implement effective solutions. This interdisciplinary program merges mathematical theory and coding instruction with liberal arts education, cultivating both technical expertise and interpersonal abilities. Offered jointly by the Engineering & Applied Science and Letters & Science colleges, it combines the benefits of a dual major in a cohesive, structured curriculum. The fusion of mathematics and computing proves especially valuable in computational sciences, quantitative finance, and data analytics, where simulating and interpreting complex systems enables evidence-based decision making.

The Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (AMCS) degree is designed to equip students with specialized expertise in analytical mathematics and computational disciplines. While providing rigorous training across two academic divisions, the program maintains liberal arts characteristics through expanded humanities and social science coursework exceeding standard university requirements. The computer science curriculum reinforces mathematical problem-solving applications, while the applied mathematics studies sharpen the analytical capabilities that enhance computational work.
