The music composition program establishes core skills in traditional notation techniques, encompassing diverse methods for rhythm, harmony, texture, and orchestration. Concurrently, electronic music classes encourage creative integration of modern music technology into your compositions. You'll investigate digital sound production, analog synthesis, immersive audio techniques, innovative recording applications, algorithmic composition, and audio programming.

Ideal for passionate music enthusiasts, our curriculum delves into music's rich historical and cultural contexts. With emphasis on music history and analysis, we equip students for advanced studies in musicology, ethnomusicology, archival work, or critique. Our distinguished faculty fosters artistic growth, helping you cultivate professional pathways in music. Performance opportunities abound through student groups like Music From Almost Yesterday, Electroacoustic Salon events, and the Contemporary Music Ensemble. Additionally, our annual Unruly Music festival highlights works by visiting artists, faculty members, and student composers.
