At UWM, the Dance Department fosters the growth of dynamic dance professionals and educators through a well-rounded approach that combines varied dance techniques, scholarly inquiry, and community involvement. We maintain strong local and regional connections while exposing students to international perspectives. Our undergraduate and graduate programs cultivate artistic uniqueness while equipping students with practical skills for careers in performance, choreography, and teaching. The curriculum blends diverse dance styles with somatic methods, fostering an educational atmosphere that values both physical awareness and creative exploration.
Our faculty includes full-time professors, lecturers, and visiting artists who embrace diverse perspectives, nurture individual growth, and support students' varied aspirations. Each semester, distinguished guest artists enhance our program by introducing students to contemporary global dance practices. These initiatives provide focused, practical training to prepare students for lasting careers in dance and related disciplines.
