As a fundamental science department within the UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, the Department of Medical Physics provides extensive education in diagnostic and therapeutic medical physics, along with health physics. Earning an MS degree from this department demonstrates academic excellence in one of North America's premier medical physics programs. Alumni are equipped for teaching and research roles in academic institutions, government labs, or medical and nuclear technology sectors. They also gain the qualifications needed to enter medical physics residency programs, making them eligible for clinical certification.
Medical physics professionals can engage in patient care, advanced medical imaging and diagnostics, or associated research and education. Health physics specialists may manage radiation safety programs at nuclear facilities, healthcare centers, or research labs, or conduct studies on radiation measurement techniques (dosimetry).
International applicants must have a degree comparable to a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree.
