As experts in occupational science, our faculty and graduate students investigate theories of occupational participation while advancing research to grow the knowledge base that informs occupational therapy practice. Occupational Science combines principles and methodologies from anatomy, biomechanics, motor control, neuroscience, psychology, and sociology to deepen our comprehension of how daily activities contribute to human health and wellness. The Occupational Science specialization within the Kinesiology MS program focuses on mastering foundational occupational science theories. Students pursue research projects and cultivate expertise in their chosen concentration area.
Each faculty member maintains dedicated research laboratories for Occupational Science studies, with some being independent facilities while others operate within campus research centers. Numerous opportunities exist for interdisciplinary collaboration with scholars from fields like kinesiology, biomedical engineering, psychology, nursing, population health, sociology, human ecology, special education, and rehabilitation psychology.
