The Department of Computer Sciences (CS) provides a vibrant setting for academic pursuits, cutting-edge research, and career advancement. As one of the nation's pioneering and most esteemed computer science programs, we proudly awarded the first computer science PhD in 1965.
Currently, CS maintains its reputation for groundbreaking research across multiple fields including computer architecture, database systems, distributed computing, and nonlinear optimization. We're proud members of the newly established School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences (CDIS), alongside Statistics and the Information School. Through CDIS, we're fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration, broadening our curriculum, and driving technological innovation. Our mission reflects The Wisconsin Idea - the belief that university education should create positive change extending beyond campus to benefit Wisconsin, the nation, and the global community.
