The Department of Biological Systems Engineering (BSE) offers graduate programs culminating in Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Program alumni meet the growing demand for highly skilled engineers across industries, consulting practices, government organizations, and academic institutions.
Graduate students in BSE typically aim to deepen their comprehension of contemporary theories, fundamental concepts, key challenges, and pressing issues in biological systems. They seek to understand knowledge creation processes, critical assessment methods, and the development and implementation of problem-solving approaches. Advanced studies enhance students' capacity for analytical thinking, creative problem-solving, and synthesizing information to make informed decisions.
Students can pursue specialized research and advanced studies in diverse areas including biological systems engineering, environmental quality and natural resource management, waste processing technologies, food and bioprocess engineering, nanotechnology and biosensor development, mechanical systems, bioresource utilization and biorefining, as well as agricultural safety and health initiatives.
International applicants must have a degree comparable to a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree.
