String graduates consistently earn scholarships to prestigious conservatory graduate programs. Numerous alumni hold positions in leading orchestras, perform with world-renowned string quartets, teach at prominent universities, and have won awards at elite international competitions. String students tend to be highly imaginative and inquisitive, frequently opting for dual degrees—an approach wholeheartedly encouraged by faculty.
Every string student benefits from weekly private instruction and masterclasses with their principal professor, supplemented by regular masterclasses featuring guest artists. Notable recent visitors include Pinchas Zukerman, Rachel Barton Pine, Nobuko Imai, Samuel Rhodes, Mark Kosower, Leon Fleisher, and Charles Neidich. In October 2017, David Kim, concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted a residency featuring multiple performance workshops and a collaborative concert with UW-Madison Strings.
