The Foundations program comprises a series of preparatory classes that familiarize new students with studio art and design principles, techniques, and historical context. This curriculum includes 2D Design, Drawing Methods and Concepts, 3D Design, Introduction to Digital Forms, along with two survey courses: Foundations of Contemporary Art and Current Directions in Art.
First-year students pursuing Art and Art Education degrees must complete these courses as prerequisites for intermediate and advanced-level studies. Freshman Art majors are highly recommended to join the Art & Artists First-Year Interest Group Program (ART FIG). Non-majors may also enroll in Foundations courses.
Students take Art Foundations courses simultaneously, with interconnected subject matter. This sequential approach fosters a supportive learning environment and peer network that persists throughout their academic journey in the program.
