The English language and linguistics specialization is designed for students who possess strong proficiency in English, applied linguistics, and related disciplines. PhD candidates in this specialization qualify for an MA in English upon completing initial doctoral requirements, as the program does not offer a standalone MA degree. Through rigorous coursework and seminars, doctoral students develop expertise in fundamental aspects of English syntax and phonology, along with applied fields like second language acquisition, discourse analysis, and language evolution. During the dissertation phase, students conduct specialized research under faculty guidance. Recent dissertation topics have included code-switching, critical teaching methods, conversational skills, syntactic challenges in language learning, classroom communication, and psycholinguistics. Program alumni have secured academic positions at universities nationwide.
