The Department of Bacteriology within the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, along with the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology in the School of Medicine and Public Health (refer to individual course listings), jointly oversees the interdisciplinary microbiology doctoral training program (MDTP). New students can explore laboratory rotations with primary faculty, affiliated faculty, and trainers across various departments. This network includes over 90 faculty members from diverse departments and programs engaged in microbiology research and graduate education. Alongside this wide array of microbiology research training possibilities, the program incorporates graduate courses provided by both departments.
Career advancement opportunities extend well beyond academic research and teaching for MDTP students. These professional growth avenues may include specialized coursework, internships, summer workshops, community outreach initiatives, or additional teaching-practicum experiences.
