The program offers advanced education culminating in a Ph.D. in horticulture. Every Ph.D. candidate will work with a primary faculty advisor to guide their academic coursework and dissertation research. Focus areas span multiple dimensions of crop science, including: sustainable and organic horticulture practices, urban and regional food system crop diversity, ecological effects of horticultural methods, plant growth regulation, cultivar development, biochemical and molecular studies of horticultural species, tissue culture and biotechnological applications, weed management and herbicide mechanisms, as well as statistical analysis in biological sciences. Candidates can pursue research initiatives involving various plants - from vegetables and fruits to ornamental plants, specialty crops, or model organisms like Arabidopsis thaliana.
International applicants must have a degree comparable to a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree.
