The Department of Geoscience offers advanced degree programs culminating in Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy qualifications. With diverse faculty expertise, students can pursue research across key earth science disciplines such as geochemistry, geophysics, hydrogeology, microbial geoscience, mineralogy, nano-geoscience, paleontology, paleoclimatology/paleooceanography, petrology, quaternary geology, sedimentology, structural geology, and tectonic studies.
Graduate students first establish a comprehensive understanding of geoscience fundamentals and related disciplines before focusing their studies. Working with a three-member advisory committee, students tailor their course selection. All graduate programs emphasize independent research, requiring candidates to produce novel findings, develop innovative concepts, and complete a dissertation worthy of publication in scholarly journals, books, or technical reports.
International applicants must have a degree comparable to a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree.
