Research possibilities within the Integrated Program in Biochemistry (IPiB) labs span diverse biochemistry fields and their connections with other scientific domains, including microbiology, cellular and developmental biology, chemistry, engineering, and beyond. Within cellular environments, proteins and nucleic acids always operate within interconnected systems. Biomolecular assemblies play crucial roles in numerous cellular processes. Some interactions are fleeting, like those involving protein-folding chaperones or degradation-targeting proteins, while others involve highly specific, long-lasting bonds that persist for extended periods. IPiB researchers investigate biomolecular folding and interaction mechanisms through multiple methodologies, incorporating genetic studies, structural biology, biophysical techniques, and chemical analysis.
