The classical humanities program blends two terms of language instruction with elective classes examining the literature, societies, and traditions of Greece, Rome, and the Ancient Near East. Learners can select from diverse course options, ranging from CLASSICS 150 Ancient Greek and Roman Monsters to CLASSICS 308 Sex and Violence in the Ancient Near East. The curriculum also includes studies in art, architecture, archaeology, gender studies, history, literature, philosophy, and political science. Beyond strengthening language skills, these disciplines help students gain a broader perspective on antiquity.
Courses in Latin and ancient Greek are consistently available, serving as the basis for contemporary English terminology while offering historical context for modern vocabulary. With intimate class sizes, students benefit from personalized attention and achieve deeper educational results.
