The Chicana and Latina Studies (CLS) program delivers a structured, cross-disciplinary examination of Mexican and Latin American communities, cultures, and groups in the U.S. Through the CLS major and certificate, students gain comprehensive knowledge and critical thinking skills to comprehend both the shared traits and distinct variations among these populations across historical and modern contexts, while investigating key themes in this interdisciplinary area. The program's coursework encourages students to examine the heritage, lived experiences, artistic expressions, cultural works, and societal dynamics of U.S. Latinx communities, fostering abilities in community involvement, research, writing, and analysis. CLS alumni are prepared to incorporate diverse viewpoints as they enter professional fields including education, social work, media, publishing, commerce, journalism, agriculture, engineering, creative arts, construction, and healthcare.
