The Italian studies program at UWMadison provides students with avenues to enhance their language skills and cultural understanding through engaging classroom instruction and diverse extracurricular activities. These include the Italian Club, Circolo della bella lingua (a casual language gathering where students at all proficiency levels can practice conversational Italian), and Cineteca Italiana, which hosts weekly Italian film screenings.
Prospective Italian majors or certificate candidates join the program at their appropriate skill level. Those with prior Italian language background should consult the undergraduate advisor regarding the Informal Italian placement assessment.
Most UWMadison Italian majors and certificate candidates fulfill their academic requirements by taking courses both on campus and through UWMadison's study abroad programs.
