The UWMadison French program provides students with engaging cultural and literary education about Francophone regions through interactive classroom instruction and supplemental activities. These include the French House, a residential immersion facility and cultural hub, plus various French and Francophone cultural events throughout Madison. Prospective French majors or certificate candidates join the program at their appropriate skill level based on language background. Those with prior French knowledge should contact Testing and Evaluation Services to schedule a placement exam.
Most UWMadison French majors or certificate seekers fulfill their academic requirements by blending on-campus coursework with study abroad opportunities through university-approved programs.
