The University of Washington Tacoma's School of Urban Studies provides a Master of Science program in Geospatial Technologies. Applications are accepted exclusively for autumn quarter enrollment, with each intake limited to 20 students. This program delivers comprehensive GIS education, equipping students with skills to operate geospatial equipment, software, and datasets for urban and environmental planning applications. Graduates will gain leadership capabilities in implementing geospatial solutions across various sectors - including government, corporate, and nonprofit organizations. The curriculum additionally covers creating location-aware mobile apps and administering online geospatial information systems. Throughout the program, students will examine both practical and theoretical approaches to addressing urban and environmental challenges through geospatial methods.
A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S. or its equivalent from a foreign institution.
An overall grade-point average of 3.0 calculated from the applicant's final 90 graded quarter credits or 60 graded semester credits.
English Proficiency:
The Graduate School is temporarily accepting official test scores for both the Duolingo English Test and the TOEFL ITP Plus For China to assist international students with remote testing options. This policy is currently in effect through the autumn 2021 admission cycle (i.e., students enrolling in autumn 2021).
TOEFL iBT - Minimum Required Score (ELP Required): 80; Recommended Score (ELP Satisfied): 92 or higher
TOEFL pBT - Minimum Required Score: 500
Duolingo: Minimum Required Score (ELP Required): 105; Recommended Score (ELP Satisfied): 120 or higher
