The Master of Sciences program is designed to help students advance in their scientific careers by developing expertise in this field, identifying and grasping emerging concepts, and mastering new techniques as they appear in academic literature. To meet this goal, students must grasp the core principles of physics related to the atmosphere, gain an in-depth understanding of atmospheric characteristics and dynamics, and sharpen their analytical skills.
Most students in this department take between 2 and 2.5 years to earn their master's degree.
During the first year, students focus primarily on completing required courses. By the end of their first summer, they deliver a First Year Seminar—a 20-minute presentation outlining their progress in selecting a thesis topic and defining the objectives and methods for their research.
Admission as a graduate student in Atmospheric Sciences is competitive. A minimum undergraduate grade-point average of 3.0 (B averages) is required.
