The Master of Jurisprudence (M.J.) program caters to professionals without legal backgrounds who want to better understand legal matters affecting their work. Those pursuing careers with legal aspects will develop practical, career-enhancing legal knowledge applicable across various fields. With just four requirements—three core courses plus a substantial research project—students can tailor their education. Our M.J. faculty collaborate with each learner to design individualized study paths. Students may also take relevant courses from other university departments. Working professionals can choose part-time schedules with morning or evening classes to maintain work-life balance while engaging with the law school community. Experiential learning opportunities include externships with local innovative businesses or nonprofits.
The Sustainable International Development (SID) concentration within the M.J. program leverages the University of Washington's resources, offering diverse courses on sustainable development, human rights, and legal systems. This program fosters creative approaches to social transformation, preparing graduates for roles in government, NGOs, social enterprises, or corporate settings.
