The Master of Jurisprudence (M.J.) program caters to professionals without legal backgrounds who want to better understand legal matters affecting their work. Those pursuing careers with legal aspects will develop practical, valuable legal expertise to strengthen their qualifications across various fields. Featuring just four requirements—three core courses plus a significant research project—the program offers flexible, tailored learning. Faculty advisors collaborate with each student to design individualized study plans. Students may also enroll in relevant courses outside the law school. Working professionals can maintain work-life balance through part-time enrollment and flexible morning/evening class schedules while engaging with the law school community. The program includes hands-on learning opportunities, allowing students to gain real-world experience through externships with innovative local businesses or nonprofits.
Employment law represents a massive, expanding global field. HR professionals play crucial roles in all organizations, with abundant career advancement opportunities in this sector. The M.J. in Employment and Human Resources Law enhances students' professional standing by teaching them to interpret and apply employment, labor, and workers' compensation laws. The curriculum provides comprehensive grounding in employment law fundamentals through core courses, specialized labor law classes, and business/administrative law instruction. Students then deepen their knowledge by examining how employment laws operate across different sectors—government agencies, private companies, and labor organizations.
