3D4M (3-Dimensional Forum) is a collaborative group encompassing ceramics, glass, and sculpture disciplines. 3D4M's purpose is to foster cross-disciplinary interactions focused on material exploration, conceptual development, and meaningful discourse within an active studio setting that mirrors and enhances modern artistic practices at a top-tier research institution. A team of four professors and three technical instructors mentor approximately eight graduate students. Workspaces are housed at the Ceramics and Metal Arts Facility, which boasts comprehensive resources for ceramics, wood and metal work, foundry operations, glass arts, a digital imaging lab, and two student exhibition spaces.

The two-year MFA program encourages innovative experimentation with materials and concepts, focusing on individual artistic paths across diverse contemporary art practices. Prioritizing personal growth and collaborative idea exchange, the curriculum maintains an adaptable yet rigorous perspective welcoming fresh approaches.
This graduate program spans two years and promotes a hands-on exploration of mediums and theories, concentrating on unique creative trajectories within modern art's expansive field. With an emphasis on individual advancement and collective knowledge sharing, the program cultivates an open-minded yet demanding outlook receptive to novel ideas. The Ceramics Program has consistently ranked among the nation's top five by U.S. News and World Report for more than ten years and received the prestigious University of Washington Brotman Award for exceptional program quality in 2005.
